The University of Guadalajara (UDG) is pleased to announce the offering of partial grants for the “International English Teaching Program”.
- To give participants the opportunity to practice their English teaching skills in a context in which English is taught as foreign language.
- To familiarize participants with Mexican culture and hence raise intercultural awareness.
- To enrich English Language teaching practices at the University of Guadalajara.
To promote and reinforce the study of English as a foreign language in the University’s network.
October – November 2015
The partial grant Includes:
- Housing arranged by the host institution.
- Scholarship of $25,000 MXN for the whole course duration.
Air fare fee of $25,000 MXN (the total amount of the grant will be provided upon arrival of participants at the University of Guadalajara).
Eligible candidates are:
- Undergraduate or graduate students majoring in TESOL, ESOL, English, Spanish or Applied Linguistics.
*Prior language teaching experience is not necessary but will be a plus.
*Spanish proficiency is not required.
Selected candidates will be appointed to one of the Campuses that comprise the University of Guadalajara and some the activities will consist of:
Planning and teaching advanced English language courses:
- a) Academic reading, writing and speaking.
- b) Teaching English for Specific Purposes.
- c) TOEFL (or another certification exam) preparation course.
- Candidates will be asked to render 16 hours of weekly teaching practice in a group and 4 hours of weekly service in the Self-Access Centers (workshops and tutorial).
- Course schedules may vary from Campus to Campus
IETP professors will be assigned a tutor who will provide them with guidance and support during their stay.
Selected candidates are expected to:
- Carry out the IETP activities within the given schedule.
- Maintain weekly communication with the assigned tutor.
Prepare academic reports and lesson plans.

Step 1: Registration and documentation
- Send an email to: firstname.lastname@example.org expressing your interest in the program.
- Register in Minerva´s web page www.cgci.udg.mx/minerva
- Fill out and send the application form (see appendix 1) and medical form (see appendix 2)
- Write and send a letter of purpose explaining the reasons and interests for applying to the IETP program.
- Send the nomination letter from the international office of your institution (undergraduate) or provide an official document acknowledging that the candidate was a university student (graduate) provided by home institution.
- Obtain and send a reference letter from a faculty member of the university of origin.

Step 2: Selection
- Candidates will be contacted and asked to do and send a lesson plan (topics will be assigned).
- Candidate will be contacted and scheduled for a virtual interview.
Step 3: Once the candidate is selected
- Receive the acceptance letter.
- Send a copy of the health insurance policy (international coverage).
- Send the flight itinerary.
- Registration and Document reception September 21st 2015
- Virtual interviews can be schedule on September 22nd 2015
*Candidates will receive an e-mail acknowledging receipt of their application.
Results of the grant will be published on the UDG’s International Office web page: www.cgci.udg.mx on September 25th 2015 and the selected candidates will receive the confirmation by email.
